The Shoro are an enigmatic race, almost completely unknown to the Milky Way at large. Their own legends suggest they were 'built' by another race, too long ago for any form of physical record. If this is true, they were obviously built quite haphazardly, as shown by many glaring physical defects that would imply something other than natural selection guiding their origins, not least of which being their half-exposed brains, or that they cannot even stand without braces on their knees.
They are birthed via artificial insemination of females and, in the middle of the pregnancy, removed from the womb and placed on advanced life support to continue their growth, as the mother's torso has no room for a child. There have been documented cases of successful intercourse and pregnancy, but these are few and incredibly far between. The Shoro have possessed this technology since before their recorded history, and some have theorized it was left with them as penance by their builders to give them a chance at survival.
One of the most mysterious aspects of the species is Shorota, a mind-web connecting every Shoro, able to exist across billions of light years. The average Shoro is unable to tap into its full power; they have a specific leader known as a Kulak who wields it and has the ability to see through other Shoro's eyes, take over their senses, and mentally speak with them. (Think a sort of low-key possession.)
The Shoro society is incredibly orderely. All members of the species are indoctrinated from birth to follow the Kulak unquestioningly, to serve him in the Shoro army, and to leave themselves completely open to Shorota. The culture is obsessed with suffering, torture, and decay, along with highly militaristic behavior. Ranks in their army range from the lowly servant warriors to high-ranking warden commandants. Extreme pain tolerance is developed from experience rather than training.
The only Shoro religion is tied with their society and is utterly devoted to fear and worship of the Kulak. The secondary governing structure of the society is the Trinity of Shoro Torn, with several individuals whose vocation is to specific aspects of the religion. These include the High Vicar of Dust, dedicated to studies and philosophy regarding inevitable death and decay, the High Vicar of Shadow, whose works pertain to mystery and secrecy, and the High Vicar of Blood, the consultant for the nature of physical suffering. Upon the death of a High Vicar, the Kulak will stand in for them, having been trained in all three areas, and raise a newborn Shoro to take over the role. High Vicar is also the highest rank of the Shoro army.
The Shoro believe that Shorota is a union of the dead, who pledge their eternal existence to the service of the Kulak. People of other species are believed to simply cease to exist upon death, which is taught to be preferable to the limited life of a non-Shoro. As such, the protocol should they ever leave their planet is to do all that they can to hasten this departure from existence.
The moment the Kulak dies, he flings his control over Shorota into the mind-web, where it will eventually settle on a random individual. A caste known as the Doctrine will then seek out the chosen Shoro and force him into the role of the new Kulak, training him in all relevant fields and helping him to understand how to wield Shorota. After the new Kulak has taken his position, the Doctrine will ritualistically commit suicide for allowing another to take the throne of their Kulak. The new Kulak will then choose a new Doctrine and train them for the next Kulak.
During his training, a new Kulak will choose a name for himself, usually relating to a specific motif (examples of famous Kulaks include the Kulak Everwatching, the Kulak Nevermore, and the Kulak Rejected). They will also undergo extreme physical changes with similar technology to what was used to build them in the first place. Size is extremely increased, raising his height to nearly ten meters, his eyes are discarded, as he can see through Shorota, and his antlers are removed in favor of smooth bone horns. He will also create a unique design for his royal armor.
Shoro technology has been steadily improving over the eons. Should they ever leave their planet, may God help us.
Note - I have not included a female example for two reasons - the in-universe reason being that the Shoro have very, very little sexual dimorphism aside from genitals, and the real life reason being that the Shoro are a pain in the butt for me to draw.
